Scientists, engineers honored with E. O. Lawrence Award.(ENERGY)

R & D, March, 2007

The U.S. Secretary of Energy, Samuel Bodman, recently named eight winners of the Ernest Orlando Lawrence Award which honors scientists and engineers at mid-career for their contributions in R&D. The winners are: Materials Research: Paul Alivisatos, Univ. of Calif. at Berkeley, and Moungi Bawendi, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, jointly for chemical synthesis and characterization of functional semi-conducting nanocrystals.

National Security: Malcolm Andrews, Los Alamos National Laboratory, N.M., for development of a world-class laboratory at Texas A&.M Univ., College Station, for buoyancy-driven mixing research.

Life Sciences: Arup Chakraborty, MIT, for applied statistical mechanical methods. His work has had a major impact on...
