Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Calif., and the Univ. of Chicago, III., have used their supercomputing expertise to take another step toward unveiling the secrets of dark energy. The scientists at the university's Center for Astrophysical Thermonuclear Flashes, with support from computer scientists at the U.S. Dept. of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration, Washington, D.C., created a 3-D simulation of an exploding white dwarf star in extraordinary detail.
