For the First Half 2002, BP's pro forma earnings were $3,763 million compared to the $7,143 million a year ago. Second quarter pro forma earnings, adjusted for special items, were $2,181 million compared to $3,431 million a year ago. The second quarter and First Half results reflect a difficult environment than a year ago.

For the second quarter, earnings per share (ADS) were $0.59 compared to $0.92 a year ago. For the First Half 2002, earnings per share (ADS) were $1.01 compared to $1.91 a year ago. The company's return on average capital employed, on a pro forma basis, adjusted for special items, was 13% for First Half 2002.
