CDMA2000: leading 3G in Asia.(3G Opinion Piece)

In many aspects related to the adoption of high-technology trends, Asia leads the rest of the world. When we look for the next hot trend in home electronics or computer games, for example, we often look towards Asia. The wireless industry has proven to be no different--many of the cutting-edge services, applications and devices debuted in Asia.

"This is specially true for CDMA. Asia is the birthplace for both 2G and 3G versions of the technology: cdmaOne[TM] was first launched in Hong Kong in Fall 1995, and the world's first 3G IMT-2000 technology, CDMA2000[R] 1X, was deployed in Korea in October 2000. In 2002, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO, an enhancement to 1X offering data at much higher speeds, was initiated in Korea."
