On December 24, 2003 Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat), one of the world's top 500 enterprises, officially announced its commercial operation of a nationwide W-CDMA network constructed by Huawei Technologies, the sole supplier of the network.

The cooperation made Etisalat the first W-CDMA operator in the Middle East to deliver W-CDMA services over a commercial network featuring interoperations between 2G and 3G systems.

Saleh Al Abdooli, general manager of Etisalat, pointed out that Huawei, with its advanced wireless technologies, customized innovative services and applications and insights into the global telecom market, has helped Etisalat quickly promote its products and services and establish the leading position in 3G services....
