After only four-and-a-half months under Chapter 11, The Southland Corporation, which owns 7-Eleven, completed its bankruptcy reorganization in March 199 1. Under the agreement, Ito-Yokado and Seven-Eleven Japan bought 70% of Southland's common stock.

With this financing, 7-Eleven now is testing a 50-unit prototype market in Austin, Texas. The units have undergone changes that include new products and competitive pricing with many supermarket items.
