Starbucks has received the 21st Annual Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development by the World Environment Center. The WEC recognized the Coffee and Farmer Equity Practices, a set of environmentally, socially and economically responsible coffee buying guidelines, which Starbucks created with Conservation International, as being worthy of its yearly award.
C.A.F.E. Practices was implemented by Starbucks and CI in order to promote better relationships with suppliers of high-quality coffee who also value important issues such as healthy workplace conditions and who promote conservation of natural ecosystems, while continuing to meet the sustainability criteria.
