The expression "eating your own dog food" dates back to the dot-com days when companies proved the value of their new technology by adopting it for their own operations. Oracle CEO Larry Ellison reportedly was ready to demonstrate the concept in a literal sense with an ad showing him eating dog food. Ellison eventually came to his senses and backed out of the ad, but the point was clear--Oracle was able to make its business more efficient by adopting its own technology.
The latest example of this personalized approach to proving a technology's value comes from Royal Phillips Electronics. The company recently announced that its semiconductor division, Phillips Semiconductor, has deployed a major implementation of RFID in its supply chain operations in Asia....
