Just as the Miss Universe pageant doesn't really, recruit beauty queens from outside the cosmos, the World Wide Web didn't really extend beyond a few Western universities and research centers when Tim Berners-Lee invented it in 1989. But although most Miss Universe contestants still seem to be Earth women, in recent years the name World Wide Web has become truly apt.
According to Visa Corp., 37 percent of Internet users are based in countries other than the United States and Canada.
