In an effort to follow the United States--where the Internet has created a significant number of jobs--European Commission President Romano Prodi announced this December his intention to secure Internet access for every citizen, home, school, business and administration. Called "eEurope", the initiative will concentrate on modernizing the European economy and creating an "Information Society" Among 10 key areas the initiative will focus on are: adapting education to the digital age, lowering the cost of Internet access and establishing c-commerce rules.
