Last July, federal judge William Osteen threw out a 1993 report from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which claimed secondhand tobacco smoke causes cancer. Judge Osteen charged the EVA had "publicly committed to a conclusion before research had begun ... failed to disclose important findings and reasoning; and left significant questions without answers."
Newspapers across America denounced Judge Osteen's decision. Varchaver of Brill's Content believes Osteen was correct, because evidence for the idea that secondhand smoke causes cancer is quite tenuous.
