The brave new biological world edges closer every day. The latest twist is an ad placed in school newspapers at top universities from Stanford to Yale in which an anonymous couple are offering $50,000 for an undergrad's ova. But not just any ova. These finicky consumers are looking for a "super egg:' And they have sketched out with startling specificity exactly what they want: The donor woman must be healthy, athletic, stand taller than 5' 10", and have SAT scores greater than 1400.

For some teen-to-early-20s women, $50,000 for half a baby presents quite a moral hazard. "Some people are totally morally opposed to it" says one 6' 1" player on Columbia University's women's basketball team. "Others say `For $50,000 I'd do just about anything.'"
