Roger Staubach's connection with the city of Dallas has an eerie beginning that started years before he began playing with the Cowboys in 1969, On the fateful weekend of November 22, 1963, Staubach, a football, basketball, and baseball star at the U.S. Naval Academy, was the cover subject for Life magazine. Then JFK was shot down in Dealey Plaza as the magazine was shipping, and Life's editors decided to pull the Staubach issue and print a completely new one about the slain President. "They destroyed most of them, but they gave me a few copies, and I still have one at home," Staubach says.
