This publication is a collection of previously published articles, mostly drawn from the author's doctoral dissertation, about the people who lived in the Bahama Islands when Christopher Columbus arrived in 1492. By Bahamas, the author means the Bahamas (the nation) and the Turks & Caicos Islands.

The author draws on environmental and archaeological studies, speculating on the Natives' subsistence (mainly farming and fishing), population (40,000), and social organization (avunculocal). It is a noble, rather neo-Binfordian effort. But, it has many problems.
