Well-documented art historical objects, many photographed in color, is something the Native art world needs in the worst way. It has often been mentioned that the provenance of an art piece is essential to the understanding of the artistry involved in making it. There are some good examples of the curators and authors in this exhibition and book showing especial concern with that idea.
