In Ray A. Young Bear's second collection of poetry, the invisible musician-literally an unseen frog- "attempts to sing" reminding the poet/speaker that his "grandfathers were singers." But this knowledge is not enough to dispel the uneasiness he experiences as he stands before the Vietnam War Memorial.
It does not "produce/the necessary memory or feeling/to make a Wa ta se Na ka mo ni,/Veteran's Song." The invisible musician, the agent of song making in these poems, hovers over them, slipping in and out of sight, speaking to the poet, calling out of him ...
