I remember the first time I heard about the decision in United States v. Sioux Nation of Indians. I was in my office when one of my Sioux students ran in to say, "We have won." Excitedly, he related the Black Hills decision and the $106 million award in monetary damages. I asked if there was any dissenting votes and he replied "Renquist," meaning Justice Renquist whose lone dissent described the entire episode as an effort at "revisionist" history.
