Comic-Book Realism.(review of the films "Ghost World" and "Original Sin")

I REALLY WANTED TO READ DANIEL Clowes's Ghost World before Terry Zwigoff's film version appeared, but I was having a hard time getting hold of it. Amazon.com had it backordered; my local Borders didn't carry it; and frankly, I didn't think to check with a comic-book store. Comic books, when I was a kid, meant Spiderman or Scrooge McDuck--stuff I thought was crap even then--certainly not an 80-page "graphic novel." Finally, I ran down a copy, by phone, at a local library.
