WITH ENRON WIND AT their backs, advocates for a "soft money" ban are getting a lift, but perhaps a treacherous one. Americans for Reform (www.americans4reform.org), a coalition of more than 40 organizations that range from traditional good-government groups like Common Cause to Catholic social-justice outfits, the Sierra Club, and AARP, was formed at the end of 2000 to broaden the fight for a ban on soft money.
