CHRIS MOONEY'S "SINS OF Petition" [May 6, 2002] contains some sins of omission that should be clarified. First, many still view embryo cloning as synonymous with embryonic-stem-cell research. The media has fostered this perception, and my conversations with prominent liberals confirm that this view is prevalent. Along with some knowledgable scientists, we maintain that cloned embryos are not necessary to address key research questions in the field.
