HAROLD MEYERSON QUITE rightly points out some of the alarming ramifications of third-party spoiling and of the Green Party's decision to run a candidate against Minnesota Sen. Paul Wellstone ["Greens to Liberals: Drop Dead!" July 1]. On both sides of this debate, irreconcilable dilemmas persist, no matter which way you go due to the "winner-takes-all" nature of our electoral system. I've observed, however, that reform goes furthest fastest when a third party spoils a major party. It's unfortunate, but true.
