REGARDING CHRISTIAN E. Weller and Laura Singleton's "The Scandal Beyond Enron" [Sept. 23], I was dismayed to find that the article made no mention of the consequences for pensioners once a company goes bankrupt. While there is a government insurance program, a pensioner doesn't necessarily continue to receive all earned benefits, medical or otherwise, if the pensioner's company folds.

Not to mention those workers who must start from scratch at new companies. Presently, a worker can lose his or her job after 20 years of employment in a defined-benefit program and have ...
