OF THE MANY GENDER gaps in the political arena, one of the most persistent has been the donor gap. As recently as 2000, women donors were responsible for just one-quarter of hard-money contributions greater than $200 to political candidates, and just one-seventh to one-eighth of soft-money contributions to political parties.
