Arthur Schnitzler's "Reigen" depicts lovers as strangers concealed by masks. The relationship between physical and spiritual love is the theme of the work. Schnitzler lived at the turn of the century and this time was characterized by anomie and a dearth of social models. Traditional ideas of love no longer hold true and the protagonists of the plays search for new modes of conduct. The text of the article is in German.
