In this book, the author has produced a highly readable narrative of the American Revolution on the New York frontier. Max M. Mintz has a keen sense for colorful anecdote and detail, and he uses it to good effect. Mintz also has a penchant for characterization, and he provides interesting portraits of the military officers who are at the heart of this study. In doing so, he sheds some new light on how personalities and rivalries shaped the prosecution of the war.
