The idea of establishing a university program in coatings technology on the West Coast began with David R. Kittredge, of the Los Angeles Society for Coatings Technology (LASCT) and was brought to the attention of California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo, CA in 1987. The academic year 1988-89 was spent in defining the program, and upon approval by the trustees of the California State Colleges and Universities in mid-1989, it became part of Cal Poly's official course offerings. The first course in the series began in the 1990 fall quarter with 25 students enrolled.
The program owes its existence to the enthusiasm, energy, perseverance, and confidence of Mr. Kittredge and Bob Abrams of the LASCT. Their untimely deaths were received by...
