The Intel Science Talent Search (formerly sponsored by Westinghouse) is among the most familiar avenues for high-level research at the high school level. Those familiar with this competition will probably associate it with the natural sciences and mathematics. In fact, an active segment of the competition is involved in the social and behavioral sciences as well, in economics, sociology, political science, psychology, and cultural anthropology. In this article, we describe our experience (as two students from a high school on Long Island, New York, and a New York University professor) in preparing two student entries in economics for social science competitions.
