Lawsuit abuse reform (tort reform) got the boost it needed in the fall of 1994 by being included as an item in the House of Representatives's Contract with America. Several bills to reform the nation's securities litigation system were introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate shortly after the 104th Congress convened in January 1995. Currently, a federal securities litigation reform bill has passed both the U.S. House and Senate. In Ohio, an omnibus tort reform bill has been introduced in both the House and Senate. Each of these Ohio bills will undergo committee hearings over the next few months. Here are summaries of these bills. (Reprinted by permission of the publisher.)
