Penelope looks grape. (short story)

Pernelope had purple bubble gum in her hair. She put it there herself. "Mmm," she said. "That grape gum smells good."

"Smell my hair," she said to Pepe, her pet cat. "Doesn't that smell good?"

"Meow," Pepe said and ran away.

"I don't care," Pernelope said. "I like gum in my hair. It smells good."

Pernelope put on her purple sneakers. Looking in the mirror, she smiled. Her purple shirt was buttoned lopsided. The bottom of her purple pants dragged the ground. A glob of purple gum hung from her brown tangled hair. "I look good and smell good," she said.

At the park, Pernelope noticed everyone looking at her. They think I look and smell good, too! she thought. She strutted with her head held high. She smiled at...
