Questar and the American Red Cross help warm hearts
Utah Business, Nov, 2002
UTAHNS FACING DIFFICULT economic conditions can keep their homes warm this winter in part because of a tradition of service and partnership between the American Red Cross and Questar.
For almost 20 years, the American Red Cross has worked with Questar to ensure that Utah's vulnerable disabled and elderly low-income individuals receive assistance in paying their heating bills.
The REACH (Residential Energy Assistance through Community Help) Utility Assistance Program is offered throughout Utah and is administered by the Red Cross. The funds are provided by generous Utahns, including Questar customers, employees and shareholders, who contribute either directly to the Red Cross or when they pay their natural gas bills. The administrative costs of the program are underwritten by Questar. This ensures that 1 00 percent of the funds contributed reach those most in need.
Last year, 1,602 Utah. families were able to stay warm after receiving $269,259 from REACH. This year, the program hopes to do even more.
For the past 102 years, the Red Cross has been working to enhance the quality of life in Utah. Red Cross services to the community include disaster response, health and safety education, and emergency communication between members of the Armed Forces and their families. Thanks to strong corporate partnerships, such as Questar's support of the REACH program, Utah businesses and Utah citizens come together to ensure that the Red Cross will be there when help is needed - then, now, and always.
