How tough is tough enough?

A HIGH MAJORITY OF PC products used in industrial applications are now ruggedized in some form, according to a study conducted by Venture Development Corp. (VDC), Natick, MA. Ruggedized PCs are units "hardened" to stand up to abuse in difficult environments, such as warehouses. Sturdier cases, higher resistance to vibration and shock protection are alt enhancements that enable ruggedized PCs to withstand daily abuse under harsh conditions.
Although these units cost more initially, cheaper office/commercial-grade PC products have tower reliability and shorter operating lives in most distribution centers.
