Is Network Solutions Hoarding Domain Names?
So, you want a great URL for your company? Be ready to WAIT for a choice selection of .com domains, or maybe it's time to register a "not-com." Network Solutions, Inc. (NSI), the ICANN-accredited (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) domain registrar that formerly had a U.S. government-sanctioned monopoly on assigning .com, .net, and .org domain names, isn't just registering--it's holding. It seems reasonable to quickly release expired domain names back into the "available" pool, for anyone, using any registrar, to register. But according to various sources, that's not happening. Buzz hears of domain names that expired years ago still being held by NSI.
