Is Network Solutions Hoarding Domain Names?
So, you want a great URL for your company? Be ready to WAIT for a choice selection of .com domains, or maybe it's time to register a "not-com." Network Solutions, Inc. (NSI), the ICANN-accredited (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) domain registrar that formerly had a U.S. government-sanctioned monopoly on assigning .com, .net, and .org domain names, isn't just registering--it's holding. It seems reasonable to quickly release expired domain names back into the "available" pool, for anyone, using any registrar, to register. But according to various sources, that's not happening.
