Manufacturers and builders increase their marketing efforts in the publicly funded building sector

With their two largest markets -- commercial and industrial- depressed, preengineered metal building systems manufacturers and builders are stepping up their marketing efforts to the publicly funded building sector, according to Richard Jarman, chairman of the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA). He noted that the dollar volume for this sector, as reported by F.W. Dodge Co., has increased from 19 percent of all nonresidential projects in 1986 to 38 percent in 1991. However, only an estimated 7.5 percent of metal building systems manufacturers' sales last year were in this category.
