Fast-tracking fills prescription for complex biotech project.(Genzyme Corp. manufacturing facility)

The challenge that Genzyme Corp. assigned to building team members who delivered its complex new biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility was to design and construct the 186,000-sq.-ft. plant within two years.

Genzyme and its building team acted quickly to establish parameters for the facility, moving on two fronts. While process engineer Raytheon Engineers & Contractors was designing the production processes, architect Architectural Resources Cambridge (ARC) and contractor/CM Turner Construction Co. were designing and constructing the building enclosure.
