Spending plans constrained. (business investment)(Brief Article)
Building Design & Construction, April, 1997
Cahners Economics does a monthly survey of business confidence for the upcoming three months. Our February survey provided some evidence that the widely anticipated slowdown in business investment has arrived. In February, corporate plans for capital spending took a 2.5-point dive. Only 28 percent of respondents planned to increase capital spending over the March-May period. That's the lowest level since October 1993. Since capital investment has been the driving force behind growth in this ex-pansion, slower growth may be in store.
