Whether it's the scorching August sun of Dallas or cloudy November skies of Chicago, the new 26-ft.-diameter artificial sky dome at Cardiff University's Welsh School of Architecture in England can replicate the conditions. Using scale models of buildings placed on a rotating platform, the facility's 640 computer-controlled fluorescent lamps simulate external lighting conditions, including those emanating from the sun, sky and clouds, and the reflections from the ground and nearby structures.
