Tranquility from traffic.(PRODUCTS AT WORK: CURTAIN WALL)
Building Design & Construction, May, 2005
A convenient location is both a blessing and a curse for Boston University's new 187,000-sf Life Science and Engineering Building. Standing less than 100 feet from the Massachusetts Turnpike, the 10-story lab facility is exposed to the hustle and bustle of the open freeway. To insulate the building from the traffic noise, architect Cannon Design, Boston, and CM Turner Construction, New York, specified 37,000 sf of 8250-HP SuperWall curtain wall. The two-in.-thick, triple-glazed insulated units provide a Sound Transmission Class rating of 40 and meet desired condensation resistance.
