The Richmond Center for Visual Arts will be the fifth and final building of Western Michigan University's Arts Village in Kalamazoo. The Richmond Center will be the "front door" for the university's art school and will unite the schools of music, dance, and theater. The facility will contain 46,000 sf of new construction, which includes at least 12,000 sf of shell build-out space on the second and third floors. The center will include galleries, support areas, classrooms, reception areas, and a student lounge. The $12 million project was designed and project managed by the Detroit office of SmithGroup, with civil engineering services provided by Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr and Huber, Grand Rapids, Mich.
