Hexcel to Acquire Fiberite Assets, Continuing Composites Consolidation

CONTINUING ITS BUILDUP in the composites market, Hexcel Corporation has agreed to acquire selected assets and businesses of Fiberite Inc. for $300 million in cash and certain assumed liabilities but no debt. Fiberite is a supplier of advanced composite materials for aerospace, industrial and recreational applications.

When the deal is completed, Hexcel will acquire certain prepeg operations along with Fiberite's ablatives, carbon-carbon, molding and engineered components businesses. These businesses had sales of about $200 million last year with facilities in Tempe, Ariz.; Newark, Del.; Winona, Minn.; Delano, Pa.; Greenville, Tex.; and a small plant in Courelles-les-Lens, France.
