Altus Announces Broad Enzyme Patent

VERTEX PHARMACEUTICALS Inc. has been awared a broad patent covering Clec crosslinked enzyme crystal technology, particularly enzymes in Clec form. Altus Biologics Inc., a subsidiary of Vertex, holds an exclusive license to the patent. The patent covers novel, high-performance industrial catalysts sold by Altus for making specialty chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

In addition, Altus and its partners are developing Clec technology for a range of industrial applications, including the neutralization of nerve agents in chemical weapons, and as an ingredient in consumer products, such as high-performance laundry detergents.
