Company says it will keep all ICI assets, and may build grassroots PTA plant in the US. E.I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & Co.'s push into the purified terephthalic acid market with the purchase of Imperial Chemical Industries PLC's polyester business last month radically changes the complexion of its own polyester business and is likely to prompt changes for others.

With the purchase, DuPont will change its market position from PTA buyer to seller almost overnight. The deal, which was approved by ICI shareholders last week, is expected to be finalized by November 1, and with full back integration, DuPont will become the producer to be reckoned with.
