Kerr-McGee Selling Specialties Business To Concentrate on Growing [TiO.sub.2] Market

KERR-McGEE CHEMICAL LLC has signed a letter of intent to sell its electrolytic and specialty chemical businesses to Finnish Chemicals Oy. The proposed sale of the $125 million business in the US comes on the heels of Kerr-McGee's acquisition of an 80 percent stake in Bayer AG's European titanium dioxide business two weeks ago.

"This is another step in executing our strategy of continuously reviewing all of our operations to maximize their value for our shareholders," says Luke R. Corbett, Kerr-McGee's chairman and CEO. "This transaction and the pending sale of our ammonium perchlorate business to American Pacific Corporation will allow us to more fully concentrate on our growing worldwide titanium dioxide pigment business."
