Unilever Reports Strong Full Year

CONTINUING WITH the trend of higher margins for big soapers, Unilever Group posted a 13 percent net profit gain to $2.8 billion for its fiscal year at constant exchange rates. For its fourth quarter, however, sales decreased 6 percent to S12.6 billion on strong volume growth, while net profit decreased from $677 million to $21 million, reflecting business disposal and investments.

The company also reported a full-year sales decrease, corrected for exchange rates, to $51.6 billion from $52.2 billion the year before on a 3 percent increase in volume. The company says profit gains are due to the benefits of restructuring and portfolio improvement.
