Company plans worldscale PP and PE units but hedges on PE plans with Hoechst. BP CHEMICALS PLANS to invest around 500 million [pounds sterling] ($835 million) in a major expansion of its complex at Grangemouth, Scotland, with the aim of making it one of the most cost-effective and technologically advanced petrochemical plants in Europe.

A key part of the project will be a 300,000-metric-ton linear low-density polyethylene plant and a 250,000-ton polypropylene unit to be built by Appryl, the polypropylene joint venture between Elf Atochem and BP. Both plants will be constructed by the same contractors and share infrastructure and logistics.
