Chemical Manufacturers Ordered to Upgrade Emergency Response

OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY and Health Administration is ordering chemical manufacturing plants and other facilities to upgrade their emergency response programs and improve their coordination with local fire departments. "A fire or explosion is no time to find out that an emergency plan is not in place or is inadequate to meet the needs of a crisis," says OSHA administrator Charles N.

Jeffress. "That is why we are strengthening protections for both workers and the firefighters on whom they often depend."
