BASF Divisions Posts Profits For Half-Year.

Company sees success across all units despite some slackness in 2Q sales. ALL OF BASF's 17 operating divisions, ranging from bulk chemicals and oil and gas to intermediates and pharmaceuticals, have made a half-year profit for the first time since at least the mid-1980s. The company, which recently described itself as a barometer of economic activity because of its variety of products, posted a 10 percent increase in operating profits to DM 2.75 billion ($1.6 billion) in the first six months of the year.

Its sales rose 3.4 percent to DM 28.7 billion, The plastics and fibers segments recorded a 78 percent increase in operating profits to DM 462 million despite price decreases, and profits in the company's colorants and finishing products divisions rose...
