AG BIOTECH -- Monsanto Company has given ArQule Inc. a milestone payment as part of a five-year research collaboration formed in 1996 to discover and develop novel crop protection products, herbicides, insecticides and fungicides. "Monsanto is evaluating lead compounds generated by ArQule in the early agricultural development phase," says Eric B.

Gordon, president and CEO of ArQule. "ArQule developed and optimized these compounds through its proprietary Mapping Array and Directed Array programs over the past 18 months. Our achievement of this first milestone affirms the potential for ArQule's technology to accelerate both the identification and optimization of lead candidates.
