Chemical Market Reporter, November, 1998

PRAXAIR INC. WILL START UP Puerto Rico's first nonfermentation-based carbon dioxide plant in Yabucoa in late November. The plant will produce up to 100 metric tons per day of [CO.sub.2]. Recovered and purified carbon dioxide produced as a by-product at the nearby Sun Oil facility will serve as feedstock for Praxair's new plant.

The [CO.sub.2] will be FDA-certified for pharmaceutical use and meet soft drink manufacturers' "ingredient grade" requirements. Product will be marketed to food, beverage, pharmaceutical and other customers in Puerto Rico and throughout the Caribbean.
