Major Vitamin Makers Launch Global Expansions.

Companies stress advanced technologies in new plants. THE BULK VITAMINS industry is increasing its output as suppliers expand their capacities for leading vitamins. Major producers are either raising their production or reorganizing their infrastructure to become more efficient and less costly.

Japan-based Takeda is expanding its production of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to 20,000 metric tons per year, a 15 percent increase from its current volume of 17,000 metric tons. Takeda's vitamin C facilities are in Hikari, Japan, and Wilmington, N.C. The company expects to complete the expansion by the end of 1999.
