Elan Corporation PLC and Perrigo Company, Allegan, Mich., have received approval from FDA for Elan's sNDA to change the status of its Nicotine Transdermal System patch from prescription to over-the-counter (OTC). In its prescription format, the product was formerly marketed as ProStep by Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories.
Perrigo will market and distribute the OTC product principally through the store brand market sector.
